Coffees are one of the main ways for people outside the club to get involved with Tejas.

Every Thursday evening at 9 p.m. during the spring and fall, a speaker is invited to come talk about a topic of interest at our house. The speakers are often professors but can be anyone with something interesting to talk about. The coffees are much different from normal classroom lectures in that the environment is very informal. Everybody sits in our living room on couches or comfortable chairs and feedback is strongly encouraged. Refreshments are served as people are mingling before and after the speaking portion. Club members are strongly encouraged to bring guests so they can meet other people as well as club members.
Speakers in the recent past have included Mark Yudof (Chancellor of UT system), Liz Carpenter, Rex Tillerson (CEO ExxonMobil), Rick Barnes (UT Head Basketball Coach), and Mack Brown (UT Head Football Coach). Check out our calendar for a list of Tejas events in the upcoming coffees during the semester.

The Tejas Club finds several opportunities each semester to volunteer our time to the community. In the past, we have helped with campus efforts such as Dance Marathon, Project Reach Out, Project 2002, 2003, and 2004, Sure Walk, and City Wide Holdup. Our members have also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Race for the Cure, and the AIDS Services of Austin.

Dinner Debates offer an opportunity for students and faculty to discuss interesting issues as peers over a fine meal. About twice a semester, a group of Tejas Braves, friends, and professors come to our house and share their views. Past topics have included: "What are the most important virtues?" "Gender Issues" and "What are the important factors in a college experience?".

Just like most other student organizations, the Tejas Club participates in intramural sports.

We have participated in football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, golf, and even a track meet or two. We are always looking for skilled athletes to help us win. But if you are like most of us and are doing it just for fun, we certainly welcome you to come join us. The Fall 2004 and 2006 Tejas Football Teams earned their ways to IM Champions. The Spring 2006 Volleyball Team fell short of the Championship with a Runner-Up finish.

Brunches are another fun way for people to get aquainted with the club. Usually once a month on a Sunday morning, club members and their guests meet at the house to have a tasty meal and converse. The meal is prepared by the club members and is always surprisingly good. The club members pay for the meal but for the invited guests it is free!

Meal Plans are a great opportunity to eat great food in an even better atmosphere. The Tejas Club has its own professional chef that creates delectable dishes from scratch. For the price of $5.00, anyone can enjoy this wonderful food at 6:00pm every Sunday through Thursday. Email the Kitchen Manager of Tejas for more details.

Meal plans offer an informal and welcoming opportunity to get to know the active members of Tejas and learn more about the organization.

The March 2nd Breakfast is the official kick-off for University festivities celebrating Texas' Independence. This is by far the most important annual event for the Tejas Club.
At this very formal occasion club members prepare and serve breakfast to roughly one hundred graduating seniors and faculty. Invitations for this event are sent out in the middle of February to graduating peers, professors, deans, and others. Preparations begin several days in advance with the renting of extra tables, plates, silverware, and the buying of food. On March 1st the downstairs and outside of the house receive a very thorough cleaning. The cooking begins the night before and continues until breakfast is served the next morning at 7:00 am. It is very important that things go smoothly so the that eating, speeches, and the toast to Texas are all completed before 8:00 am so that everybody can get to class. The final event is the handing out of a single yellow rose to every woman as she is leaving.

If you have ever been to a UT football game, you have probably noticed the Flashcard Section. This is coordinated by the Tejas Club. During half-time colored cards are held up in different patterns to spell words or make pictures.
Although only visible for a few minutes during half-time, Flashcards is a very time consuming project. This is especially true for the members designated to receives hundreds of phone calls from students wanting to sit in that section. If you or your group are interested in participating in the Flashcard Section, contact one of the current Flashcards chairs: Kyle Carpenter, Reese Mathieu, and Liam O'Rourke.

The Tejas Club is not all work and high achievements. We usually have 3-5 parties during each semester. They can range from the nearly spontaneous to well planned annual events.

Popular parties include the Annual Haloween Party and the Bob Pees Crawfish Boil. Keep an eye on the webpage for party announcements. And, like most of our events, our parties are open to all students.
